Camera manufacturer Nikon will provide users of its Nikon D600 dslr who are struggling with accumulating dust particles around the image sensor with a new D600 or a comparable camera. The problem was discovered in 2012.

In 2012, many users of the Nikon D600 noticed that there were dust particles and oil stains around the sensor of their camera. Nikon then offered to clean the sensors, if self-cleaning by the user did not help. In severe cases, parts were replaced even if the user was out of warranty, but even after a few repairs, some users continued to see the black spots in their photos.

For those cases, Nikon will now offer replacement D600 or comparable cameras, the manufacturer reports. For example, some victims would have already received a D610. At the same time, the company continues to repair affected D600 DSLRs. The manufacturer apologizes to customers and stores for the problems. These would have been caused by the peeling coating of a part in the mirror housing of the camera.
