Nikon introduces Nikon 1 J5 with flip-up LCD

Nikon is expanding its mirrorless camera range today with the Nikon 1 J5. The compact system camera with small, interchangeable lenses, tilting screen and UHD video mode will be available from April 30.

Nikon has equipped the 1 J5 with an image sensor of 1 inch and 20.8 megapixels. The UHD video mode can handle 15fps. Another important detail is the full-fledged rotary wheel with p, a, s and m positions. The included lens with the basic kit is a 10-30mm, f/3.5-5.6 PD zoom.

Furthermore, just like its predecessor, the camera has an ISO range of 160-12,800, but in combination with a new image processor, the Expeed 5A. It’s also the first Nikon interchangeable-lens camera to use a BSI CMOS sensor, which should improve performance in low-light conditions. In autofocus mode, pictures can be taken at a speed of 20 fps or up to 60 fps if the focus is fixed in the first frame.

Another notable change is the appearance. The body has been given a more classic camera look than its predecessors. The kit version of the compact system camera has a suggested retail price of 549 euros. Nikon VS also reports two other kit options. One kit includes a Nikkor VR 30-110mm f3.8-5.6 lens in addition to the base lens, and the other comes with a 10-100mm f/4-5.6 lens. In dollars, the kits come in suggested retail prices of $749.95 and $1049.95, respectively. These will probably be around 800 and 1100 euros in Europe.
