Nikon develops 800mm F-mount super-telephoto lens
With the Nikkor AF-S 800mm f/5.6 VR, Nikon has developed a new super-telephoto lens with a fixed focal length of 800mm. The lens thus has the longest focal length of all Nikkor lenses with autofocus.
The new 800mm AF-S lens has an aperture of f/5.6, features vibration reduction in the form of Nikon’s VR system and is intended to complement the full-frame FX Nikkor lens lineup. According to the manufacturer, the lens is resistant to dust and water drops.
The Japanese manufacturer mainly focuses on sports, news and nature photographers with the lens. Nikon will be showing a prototype of the lens to professional photographers at the Open Golf Championship at the Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, taking place July 19-22. The general public can admire the lens during the Photokina 2012, which will be held this year from September 18 to 23 in Cologne, Germany.
Nikon has with the AF-S 800mm f/5.6 VR lens a successor to the old 800mm f/5.6 IF-ED lens, which was made from September 1986 to December 2005. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed details about when the lens will be released. goes on sale. The price is also not yet known.
