Nikon has announced the Coolpix P1000. This bridge camera has a zoom lens with a full-frame equivalent of 24-3000 mm as its most characteristic feature. This gives the camera 125x optical zoom.

The Coolpix P1000 is the successor to the P900 released in 2015; the latter features a zoom lens with 83x optical zoom, which was a record at the time. According to Nikon, the P1000 is currently the only compact camera in the world with a 125x optical zoom. With dynamic fine zoom, a ‘smart’ digital zoom, the range can be increased to a maximum of 6000mm.

Nikon’s new bridge camera, like the P900, has a 1/2.3″ sensor with a resolution of 16 megapixels and includes a lens with a brightness of f/2.8 in wide-angle position and f/8.0 in telephoto position. brightness in the telephoto position is still f/6.5, even though the lens of this camera did not go further than a focal length of 2000 mm.

The P1000 can take photos at up to 7fps, but the buffer doesn’t go beyond 7 photos either. The camera has a minimum shutter speed of 1/4000s and the ISO range of the camera goes from 100 to 6400. The camera is also equipped with 5 stops of optical image stabilization, WiFi and Bluetooth.

The camera includes a viewfinder with an OLED screen with a resolution of 2.36 million pixels, supports photos in the raw format and can record videos in 4k resolution at up to 30fps. Videos can also be recorded at 1080p and 60fps. The 3.2″ LCD, which is not touch sensitive and has a resolution of 921,000 pixels, can be fully rotated and unfolded.

The Nikon Coolpix P1000 weighs 1.4kg and will be released in September for a price of $1,000 in the United States. Converted and including VAT, the euro price is approximately 1030 euros.
