Nightdive Studios working on ‘enhanced version’ of System Shock 2

Nightdive Studios is going to release an improved version of System Shock 2. The game first came out in 1999 and was re-released in 2013 for modern operating systems. It is not yet known what exactly will be improved.

System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition coming out soon, say the makers on Twitter. Details about the game are not yet available and it is therefore unclear what exactly will be changed, but it is not a full remake. System Shock 2 was already re-released in 2013, but that version only worked with modern operating systems and made no further changes.

A 1994 Enhanced Edition of System Shock was released in 2015. In addition, the controls have been modernized, sound effects have been improved and support for widescreen resolutions has been added.

Nightdive Studios has also been working on a remake of the first part of System Shock in recent years. That game is being rebuilt from the ground up and should be released sometime in 2020. The studio has raised $1.35 million through Kickstarter for its development. Nightdive regularly posts updates on the Kickstarter page with new details about the remake.

A sequel to the game classics is also being worked on. Another studio does that: Otherside Entertainment. System Shock 3 was announced at the end of 2015 and the first images were shown in March this year. Warren Spector, chief executive behind the first Deus Ex game, and System Shock is in charge of developing the new installment.

The first System Shock game was released in 1994 and its successor System Shock 2 appeared in 1999. They are action RPGs with a cyberpunk theme. The games received positive reviews at the time of their release and are still considered classics within the genre.
