Nightdive Studios shared a video of the System Shock remake’s alpha test. The developer shows, among other things, new environments. The images are not yet representative of the final product, which should be released in 2020.

The developer emphasizes in the description of the video that the images do not show the final product. “The goal of the alpha test is to rebuild all levels to scale. In addition, we want to achieve all possible goals to complete the game. There will be many more updates to come,” adds Nightdive Studios in a comment below the video on youtube.

A campaign on Kickstarter raised money to make the game in 2016. The goal was to raise at least $900,000, but the campaign ultimately raised $1.35 million. Backers who have donated more than $750 have been invited to play the alpha test, according to Polygon.

In February 2018, the project was temporarily paused. CEO Stephen Kick said this was due to a series of changes and said “the project needed to be revised”. Development of the remake resumed in April. No release date has been announced yet, but the developer says the game will be released in the first quarter of 2020.
