Nightdive Studios resumes work on System Shock remake after short break
Nightdive Studios, the developer working on the System Shock remake, has resumed work after a month and a half hiatus. According to the studio, the goals of the project had become too ambitious. Those have been adjusted and the studio continues with a smaller team.
Nightdive Studios raised a total of $1.35 million in the summer of 2016 with the Kickstarter campaign for the game. Then, over the course of development, according to Nightdive CEO Stephen Kick, several ambitious additions to their vision of the new System Shock were added that allowed the project to grow beyond the team’s head. The additional goals even led the studio to go to publishers for more financing, which was unsuccessful.
Kick states that during the intermission, the team has adjusted its goals to match what they had in mind during the Kickstarter campaign: a remake of the old game with better graphics and performance. How many developers Nightdive Studios has shown the door is not disclosed.
In an interview with PC Gamer at the Game Developers Conference, the leaders of Nightdive already announced that the release of the game had been postponed to 2020. Initially, at the time of the Kickstarter campaign, it was still 2017. In this update, however, Stephen Kick states. that the highest level backers will have the opportunity to play the full game as early as September of this year. However, not all art is present in the game yet. The studio has also put some new screenshots of the remake online.
