Niantic will increase the chance of catching Pokémon with bonus system

Niantic has announced an update for Pokémon Go that will allow players to increase the catch rate of Pokémon. Players who catch a lot of Pokémon of a certain type will find it easier to catch critters of that same type afterwards.

Increasing the chance of capture is related to the medals that can be earned in the game. In Pokémon Go, players receive medals when they catch a certain amount of a certain type of Pokémon. Now those medals don’t have a function yet, but after the update they will give a bonus that will help you catch the critters.

It is not yet known how big the difference is in the chance of catching after the introduction of the new bonus system. Players receive a bonus of +1, +2 or +3, depending on whether they achieved a bronze, silver, or gold medal for the type of Pokémon. If a Pokémon has two types, the bonuses earned by the player for both types are averaged.

Rare Pokémon have a lower catch rate in Pokémon Go than common critters. That is, they are more likely to escape during capture. Avid players who have caught a lot of Pokémon in the past few months will have already won many of the medals, giving them a higher chance of actually catching the rare Pokémon if they come across it.

It is not yet known when the update will be released, but Niantec says it will be released soon.
