Niantic releases Pokémon Go for the Apple Watch
As promised, Niantic has made Pokémon Go available for the Apple Watch this year. Players can use the wearable to find Pokémon and collect items at PokéStops. You can’t actually catch Pokémon with Apple’s smart watch.
Niantic promised in September that Pokémon Go would be released in 2016 and just before the start of the holiday, the company released the app, although it may be a while before users can receive it. It is a companion app for Pokémon Go on the iPhone.
Players can get notifications on the smartwatch for Pokémon and PokéStops that are nearby, and the app also shows the distance left to hatch eggs and receive Candy from the Buddy Pokémon.
Play sessions of the app can also be combined with Workout, to keep track of the activity and the number of calories burned. To actually catch Pokémon, users must wield the iPhone.
