Niantic is working on location-based NBA game All World
Niantic Announces NBA All World. The creator of Pokémon GO is coming with a basketball game for smartphones, which will also make use of the player’s location. It is not yet known when the game will be released.
Niantic announces the game for Android and iOS. Interested parties can register for the mobile game on the website from Niantic. The game lets players compete against each other in basketball games and collect in-game clothes and other items. The game will also feature well-known NBA players, as the game will be released under the official NBA license.
As with Niantic’s other games, this requires players to get out the door and to special points near them. The game appears to be built on the same system as Ingress and Pokémon GO, Niantic’s two AR games.
Niantic has already released several AR games that use the same formula where players have to go outside and perform activities and collect items. Last year, the developer announced an AR game in collaboration with Nintendo: Pikmin Bloom. This game is based on the Pikmin series.
Niantic’s formula does not seem to work with all franchises. Earlier, the developer pulled the plug on an AR game based on the Harry Potter universe: Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. An AR game based on the board game Catan was also scrapped.
