Next Windows version will be named Windows 10 October 2018 Update
The new version of Windows 10 will be named October 2018 Update and will be released in that month. Microsoft announced this at the IFA trade fair in Berlin. This update is known internally as Redstone 5.
Microsoft announces the designation in a blog post and writes that it wants to release more information in the coming weeks, probably about the changes that the update brings. The naming of the new update is not particularly surprising, because Microsoft had already named the update released on the last day of April the April 2018 Update.
Windows Central writes on the basis of its own sources that Microsoft wants to distribute the latest Redstone 5 build to Insiders on September 14, after which it must be finally closed internally on September 25. The stable update should then be released in the first half of October. This may be a day-one patch.
Several Redstone 5 builds have since been reviewed, offering a view of the features in the October update. For example, improvements to notepad, a dark theme for the explorer, a Your Phone app and support for SwiftKey. The Sets feature, to display apps via tabs side by side in a window, Microsoft removed from Insider builds back in June, so it may be introduced in a later update.
