Google is currently working on a next version of Google Glass that should be released soon. This is reported by the director of the Italian eyewear maker Luxottica, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

Luxottica is a global player in glasses and is working with Google on the next version of Glass. Director Massimo Vian was at a shareholders’ meeting in California. There, according to The Wall Street Journal, he met the Glass developer team.

According to Vian, the updated version of the glasses, which is currently in the preparatory phase, will be released soon. However, he declined to give more details. It is therefore not clear when exactly the glasses will appear.

It is the first time in months that information has surfaced about Google’s Glass project. In January, it was announced that Google was stopping production of its smart glasses and discontinuing its Explorer program. That was set up to allow software developers to test an early version of the smart glasses.

Google Glass was announced with much fanfare by Google in 2013. However, the development of the smart glasses and the necessary software was slow. Many questions were also raised about matters such as privacy and security. After stopping production, Google said it would continue developing the glasses.
