Next God of War Game Delayed Until 2022, Also Coming to PS4
The next God of War game, ‘Ragnarok’, will not be released until 2022. Herman Hulst reports this in a blog post. The PlayStation executive also confirms that the upcoming title in the God of War franchise will also be available for the PlayStation 4.
Hulst reports in the blog post that the development of the new God of War title ‘started a little later’. “That’s why we’ve decided to move that game to next year so that Santa Monica Studio can deliver the great God of War game that we all want to play.” Also the developer of the upcoming God of War game reports on Twitter that it wants to focus on delivering a game of the best possible quality.
Earlier this year, Polyphony also postponed the release of PlayStation-exclusive Gran Turismo 7 until next year. Hulst expects Horizon: Forbidden West to be released this year, but also indicates that this is not yet fully established. “For Horizon: Forbidden West, we think we’re on track for a release around the holidays, but that’s not quite certain yet, and we’re doing our very best to confirm that to you as soon as possible.”
PlayStation CEO Hulst also reports that God of War: Ragnarok will be available for PS4, as will Horizon: Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7. “Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 – for Horizon: Forbidden West , the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7 – we will continue to look at that,” said Hulst. “If PS4 owners want to play that game, they can. If they want to go ahead and play the PS5 version, that game will be there for them.”
The upcoming God of War game was already teased last year during a PlayStation 5 Showcase from Sony. Taking into account the teaser ‘Ragnarok is coming’, the game will be based on Norse mythology. Hulst further confirms that PlayStation Studios currently have more than 25 titles in development. ‘More than half’ of those would be new franchises. The CEO reported this in an interview with Wired earlier this year.
