CD Projekt RED has delayed next-gen upgrades for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The upgrade for Cyberpunk is now scheduled for Q1 2022, while the upgrade for The Witcher 3 is slated to arrive in Q2.

CD Projekt RED announces the postponement on Twitter. The company says there that the two releases have been postponed due to “recommendations from the teams that oversee the development of both games”. The company has not yet provided concrete release dates for the two updates. “Our target for Cyberpunk 2077 is Q1 2022, and Q2 2022 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” the company wrote. “Apologies for the longer wait, but we want to do it right.”

In early September, CD Projekt RED announced that it was planning to release the upgrades for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 this year. The company then spoke of a ‘target date’ of ‘end 2021’. The next-gen upgrades will be available for the PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PCs. This means that both games should fully utilize the computing power of the current-gen consoles. For example, the upgrade for The Witcher 3 should add visual upgrades and ray tracing to the game. CD Projekt RED has not yet shared any concrete details about the Cyberpunk 2077 upgrade.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10, 2020 for PCs and consoles and was widely criticized for bugs and performance issues. Since then, the developer has made several hotfixes and major updates. The Witcher 3 was released in 2015 and has been well received by critics and fans of the franchise. Both next-gen upgrades will be available for free next year.
