According to Bloomberg and Eurogamer, Ubisoft is working on a new Assassin’s Creed game that will be smaller in scale than previous games and focus more on stealth. Originally intended as a DLC for Valhalla, the game is now being released as a standalone game.

The game, known internally as Rift according to Bloomberg, stars Valhalla character Basim in the lead role. Eurogamer sources say there were plans to at least have Baghdad as a location. Both media outlets say the game won’t be as big as, say, Valhalla and Odyssey, but will be comparable in size to a region of those games.

The game will likely take place before Valhalla. José Araiza, producer of the latter game, previously confirmed to Eurogamer that Basim would return within the Assassin’s Creed universe. Rift could be out late this year or next year. Ubisoft declined to comment on the rumours.

Rift isn’t the only Assassin’s Creed game that Ubisoft is rumored to be working on. Last year Bloomberg wrote about Assassin’s Creed Infinity. This would be a “live service” game, combining different historical eras and AC experiences. The game will not be released until 2024 at the earliest. Ubisoft confirmed at the time that the game was in development.
