The successor to the NexDock, the NexDock 2, has reached its goal on Kickstarter and will go into production. Nearly $500,000 has been raised with an original goal of over $50,000. The laptop dock is powered by a smartphone or RaspBerry Pi.

The NexDock 2 builds on the first NexDock. The device has an aluminum housing, a full-HD screen, a keyboard and a number of connections, including USB-C. The product does not have a processor, memory or operating system; a smartphone or, for example, a mini-computer must take care of that.

Any WiFi and 4G connections are also made via the telephone. Thanks to the built-in battery, the laptop will also be able to power connected devices. The NexDock 2 will eventually work with various devices, such as smartphones, compute sticks or a Playstation 4. For now, however, there is only support for Huawei and Samsung smartphones.

For $ 209 interested parties get the device, a USB-C charger and the necessary cables. The first copies are expected to be delivered in September. The first version of the NexDock was released in 2016. At that time, it only worked with Windows 10 smartphones, had a less good screen and less extensive functionalities.
