New version of Chrome supports 4k upscaling technology from Nvidia

The latest version of Google Chrome has support for Nvidia’s 4k upscaling technology. The beta build of the browser supports RTX Video Super Resolution, although Nvidia has yet to release a driver for it.

Support is in Chrome Early Stable version 110.0.5481.77, discovered Videocardz. It includes integration for NvidiaVpSuperResolution, Nvidia’s technology to upscale lower resolutions to a 4k resolution. Nvidia announced that technology last month at the CES trade show. The company showed a demo in which it managed to upscale a 1080p video of Apex Legends to 4k. According to the specifications, this is even possible up to a maximum of 144Hz.

Users need at least an RTX 30 or RTX 40 card to use the upscaling. These are the only GPUs on which Nvidia supports the upscaling technology.

Support for it is already in Chrome, which will be generally available on February 7 as a final stable build. Nvidia has yet to release an official driver for this, for Chrome and Edge. It is not known when that will happen, but the driver may follow on Tuesday along with the final release.
