New Polestar 3 electric SUV has 610 km driving range, costs 89,000 euros
Polestar introduces the Polestar 3, an electric SUV built on a new Volvo electric platform. The standard version has a power of 360kW and a driving range of 610km. Deliveries will start at the end of 2023. The Polestar 3 will cost at least 89,900 euros.
The electric SUV gets two electric motors according to Polestar. They are on both the front and rear axles. Together they ensure that the electric car has four-wheel drive. To save energy, there is also the option to switch off the rear-wheel drive.
The Polestar 3 will be available for purchase in two versions. The standard version has a power of 360kW and a maximum torque of 840Nm. The driving range of this version is 610 km, according to the car manufacturer. With the optional Performance Pack, the car has a power of 380 kW and a maximum torque of 910 Nm. Both versions of the Polestar 3 will have a battery of 111kWh.
The battery can be charged via alternating current with a capacity of 11 kW. According to the manufacturer, it takes eleven hours to fully charge the car using this method. If direct current is used, a maximum of 250 kW can be charged. Then the car charges from ten to eighty percent in half an hour.
The Polestar 3 will have a built-in Nvidia Drive computer on which Volvo Cars’ software runs. This on-board computer will process data from sensors and cameras and control functions that use artificial intelligence. It is not clear exactly what those are. The infotainment system is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform. It runs the Android Automotive OS from Google that can be operated via a 14.5-inch screen in the cockpit.
The Polestar 3 will be produced in China from mid-2023. The company expects to be able to deliver the first cars from the end of 2023. In 2024, a new production line of the SUV will start in the United States.
