New Nvidia Shield TV Pro and Shield TV are already in the hands of users
The new Nvidia Shield TV Pro and the Shield TV dongle have appeared in stores in the United States and have already been sold. The Pro model has 16GB of flash storage and costs $200, the dongle has 8GB of storage and costs $150. Nvidia will probably officially release the products on Monday.
A Reddit user reported Thursday that he saw both products in a US retailer and bought the Pro model. In the meantime, he has also posted his first experiences with the new set-top box on reddit. The new Shield TV Pro has the same appearance as the Shield TV from 2017. According to the user, the operation of the set-top box is also identical to that version. The biggest visible difference is in the remote control, which has more buttons, including a Netflix button.
The new Shield TVs have an AI-Enhanced mode to upscale footage. According to another Reddit user, there are three settings for this: low, medium and high. According to that user, 480p content on Netflix looks visibly better with this feature enabled.
Extensive details about the Shield TV Pro already appeared last week, because Amazon put a product page online too early. The new set-top box has a Tegra X1 + soc, of which not all details are known yet. The soc would perform 25 percent better than the current Tegra X1.
Nvidia will release a new Shield TV along with the Shield TV Pro. It will have a dongle form factor and will be equipped with 8GB of flash storage. This cheaper version gets the same soc as the new Pro model. The remote is also the same.
Both new Shield TVs support dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos. Nvidia will probably officially release the products on Monday. It Shield TV account on Twitter now shows a teaser with the date October 28th.
