New mod makes Oculus games compatible with HTC Vive . again
The developers of Revive have released a new version of their mod for the Oculus Rift software. With that, it should now be possible to play all Rift games on the HTC Vive, something that was made impossible with a recent update of Oculus.
It is version 0.6 of the Revive mod, and the necessary software has been put online on GitHub. This bypasses the 1.4 update of Oculus; This software introduced drm that prevents HTC Vive owners from playing the games released for the Oculus Rift.
The first version of the mod came out some time ago. Oculus then announced that it saw the software as a hack and that it would not tolerate this. However, the company has also spoken out against lock-in of its software. Because of that, it seemed for a while that the Revive mod could last.
Version 1.4 of the Oculus software with the drm came out last week. Revive then quickly came up with a new version of its mod to bring back compatibility with the Vive. However, not all games were supported yet, which should be the case with this new version, according to the makers. It is unclear whether Oculus in turn will also release an update to disrupt the functioning of the mod.
