New Live Tiles for Windows will be showcased during Build conference
Microsoft will demonstrate improvements for Live Tiles in Windows at the Build meeting. These are probably interactive versions of the information tiles, although little specific information is available yet.
The content of the presentations that will be played during Build, a developer conference that will take place at the end of this month, has been put online. In it, MS Poweruser discovered that Microsoft is going to show a new version of its Live Tiles interface. Microsoft speaks of both improvements for the notification system and Live Tiles, but gives few concrete details.
There will be two much-requested new features, but which ones are unknown; Microsoft speaks of a surprise. It is likely that the tiles will show more information and be more interactive. Furthermore, Microsoft proposes to come up with an improved api for Toasts, the notification system in Windows. This should give developers more flexibility in creating notifications for their applications.
Live Tiles have been the main interface element of the Windows operating system for a number of years, both on desktop and mobile. Microsoft has also been working on improving the feature for some time; about a year ago, the company promised to come up with interactive tiles. One of the features of interactive Live Tiles is to add buttons for frequently used functions. For example, tiles for a messaging application could have a button for typing a response, while an alarm tile could have a snooze or dismiss button.
