New Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm supplies first power to the electricity grid
The Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm in the North Sea has supplied power to the electricity grid for the first time, energy producer Vattenfall reports. The wind farm must have a total of 140 wind turbines, which together have a capacity of 1.5 GW.
Vattenfall writes that with the delivery of the first stream an important milestone has been reached on the electricity grid through the new wind farm. According to the company, construction of the wind farm is on schedule and should be completed next year. Ultimately, the entire park must be able to generate enough energy for the consumption of 1.5 million Dutch households.
The wind farm is located off the coast between Scheveningen and Zandvoort. The park starts at 18 km from the coast and continues until about 35 km from the coast into the North Sea. When construction is complete, the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm will be one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world.
Hollandse Kust Zuid is a wind farm of Vattenfall, BASF and Allianz and uses Siemens Gamesa wind turbines. Any of these windmills should be good for 11MW. Construction of the wind farm started last summer. The wind farm is expected to be completed in 2023.
