‘New Google Nest thermostat gets control via hand gestures’
Google appears to be working on a new version of the Nest thermostat, with the new model appearing to have control via hand gestures. Details appeared of a model that has a 60GHz transmitter on board.
That data appeared to the US telecom watchdog FCC, which revealed information from a model code-named G4CVZ. One of the most striking features is the ability to output signals at 60GHz. Probably this is used for controlling the thermostat with hand gestures; it is comparable to the Motion Sense control that Google previously developed for the Pixel 4 smartphone. It is also possible that the wireless signals are used to recognize whether the owner is at home.
Furthermore, the data from the FCC shows that the new Nest thermostat has bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11n on board. Google itself has not yet released anything about the device, but given that the FCC has already reviewed the thermostat, it is likely that the announcement will follow soon.
Google released the most recent version of the Nest thermostat in 2017. It is Nest Thermostat E, a cheaper version of the Nest Thermostat V3.
