New FCC certification may indicate new Pixelbook

Google has a new device certified by the FCC, the American telecom watchdog. It is probably a new Pixelbook, the name for the Chromebooks that Google makes itself.

The identification number HFSG021A is used in the certification application. Google also uses that G numbering for many of its other devices, such as the Pixel phones. The HFS designation was previously used on the first Pixelbook and the Pixel Slate. In addition, the certification was submitted by Quanta Computer Inc, which has previously made products for Google under the Made By Google label. That seems to indicate that it is a new Pixelbook. Google previously stopped producing its own tablets, but said it would continue to work on Pixelbooks.

There have been rumors for some time that a successor to the original Pixelbook is coming. Not much is known about this, by the way; there are few details about the device in the certification. This is a certification for various wireless connections. However, it appears from the application that an LTE connection is missing. According to the application, the device would have an Intel Wireless-AC 9260 chip, which supports WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 5.
