The previous Battletoads game originally came out in 1991, for the NES and Sega Mega Drive. That same game was released for the Amiga and Sega Game Gear between 1993 and 1994. The original game was released for Xbox One in 2015 as part of the Rare Replay collection. The new Battletoads game is being developed by Rare, the makers of the original game, among others. That studio was taken over by Microsoft in 2002. Dlala Studios is also working on the Battletoads reboot. That developer has worked on Sea of ​​Thieves and indie game The Escapists, among others.
