New Battletoads game will be released on August 20 for Xbox One and Windows 10
Microsoft will release the new Battletoads game on August 20. The game will be available for Xbox One and Windows 10 through the Windows Store and Steam. The game will be added to the Xbox Game Pass upon release.
Microsoft announces the release date on Xbox Wire. The company already announced the game at E3 in 2019, but did not announce a release date at the time. Also only a release for the Xbox One was mentioned. Now Microsoft confirms that the game will also be available for Windows 10 PCs. The game will also be added to Xbox Game Pass upon release. It is not yet clear what the game will cost separately.
The Battletoads game consists of several genres. For example, according to Microsoft, the game will have traditional ‘beat-em-up’ levels, but also racing stages and levels with platforming gameplay. The game has a hand-drawn art style that it says is inspired by cartoons from the 90s. Battletoads offers local co-op for up to three players.
The previous Battletoads game originally came out in 1991, for the NES and Sega Mega Drive. That same game was released for the Amiga and Sega Game Gear between 1993 and 1994. The original game was released for Xbox One in 2015 as part of the Rare Replay collection. The new Battletoads game is being developed by Rare, the makers of the original game, among others. That studio was taken over by Microsoft in 2002. Dlala Studios is also working on the Battletoads reboot. That developer has worked on Sea of Thieves and indie game The Escapists, among others.
