About half of Bandcamp’s staff is being laid off. Songtradr buys the company from Epic Games, barely a year after Epic acquired the music service for an undisclosed amount.

Various Bandcamp employees report on social media that about half of the company’s workforce will be laid off. The affected employees will not receive an offer from the new owner Songtradr to continue working at the music platform.

Company confirms to The Verge that only fifty percent of Bandcamp employees have received an offer to work at Songtradr. The company also confirms that the acquisition of Bandcamp has now been completed. Songtradr once again emphasizes that “the Bandcamp experience remains the same.”

Epic Games acquired Bandcamp for an undisclosed amount in 2022. Eighteen months later, Epic announced that it was selling the company to Songtradr. Epic also said at the time that 250 people would “leave Epic” after receiving offers from Songtradr or SuperAwesome, an advertising company that is being spun off from Epic.

about half the company was laid off today. some of the most incredible people I’ve ever worked with, including two of my amazing editorial colleagues @diamonde and @atoosamoinzadeh and most of the incredible support staff among many others. this is a loss, no two ways about it
