New Animal Crossing game coming to Nintendo Switch
A new game from the Animal Crossing series is in the works for Nintendo Switch. The game will be released in 2019. Separately, details such as gameplay, content and features have not yet been disclosed.
Nintendo announced the game’s arrival via a teaser trailer during the Nintendo Direct livestream on September 14. The trailer came after the announcement that the character Isabelle, from the same series, is playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
The first Animal Crossing game was released in Europe on September 24, 2004 for the Nintendo GameCube. The game was already three years out for the Nintendo 64 in Japan. The most recent game in the main series, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, was released for Nintendo 3DS on June 14, 2013.
New Leaf got another expansion called Welcome Amiibo in November 2016. In the expansion, the player can use an NFC reader, built into the New 3DS or sold separately, to scan Amiibo or Amiibo cards. In this way, the player can get new items or a new villager. This feature also appeared in the Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer spin-off game.
Last year, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp was released for iOS and Android in November. The game is a compact version of Happy Home Designer, in which the player has to furnish houses for the villagers.
