Never-released prototype shows pink Apple AirPods

Photos have emerged of a never-released prototype of Apple’s AirPods wireless earbuds with a pink charging case. Apple had wanted to release various colors of the AirPods that would match those of the iPhone 7.

The AirPods should have appeared in pink, red, purple, black and ‘blonde’, so claims collector Kosutami. The collector has the pink charging box. Apple came up with the Design Verification Test or Product Verification Test for the colored AirPods, a sign that Apple canceled them relatively shortly before release. These are first-generation AirPods.

Since their release seven years ago, AirPods have only been available in white. It seems that only the charging case would be given a color; the AirPods inside appear to be white. It is unknown whether Apple will release AirPods in colors at a later stage. Kosutami also shows an example of the color purple that the AirPods could have gotten. That’s an unreleased prototype of the iPhone 7 from 2016.
