‘Neuralink does not receive permission for trial with chips in brains’

Neuralink has not received permission from the American health authority FDA to conduct human trials with brain implants. The Elon Musk company wants to use a chip to ensure that people with disabilities can type.

The FDA rejected the application last year, reports Reuters. The authority came up with a list of objections about the content of the human trials, seven sources told the news agency. Since then, Neuralink has been trying to remove those objections, but has not yet succeeded. If those objections are resolved, the tests could still start.

Neuralink has not said anything publicly about the FDA’s objections. Musk said late last year that “most of the paperwork” had been done, but made no mention of the rejected application at the time. The permission is required before the company can conduct human trials.

Neuralink wants to develop a brain-computer interface. The first goal is to enable paralyzed people to do more by allowing them to operate a computer. Neuralink was founded in 2016, but the company did not announce its plans until 2019.
