Netflix to be the first to deploy Sennheiser spatial audio technology
Netflix will use new sound technology from Sennheiser, called Ambeo 2-Channel Spatial Audio. This converts stereo sound to spatial audio without the need for special equipment. The fourth season of Stranger Things may kick off.
Through Ambeo 2-Channel Spatial Audio, stereo sound, which by default consists of two audio channels, is converted to spatial audio. that will according to Sennheiser also use two sound channels. It will also allow content creators to customize the spatial audio implementation. The technology works with the most common file formats used in the film industry.
Ambeo 2-Channel Spatial Audio works on any stereo sound system, and according to Sennheiser, it doesn’t matter whether it’s a television, headphones, a tablet or a laptop. A special sound system, which is equipped for spatial audio, is therefore not necessary for this technology.
The new sound technology was developed in collaboration with Netflix and other industry partners. The American streaming giant is now going to apply Ambeo 2-Channel Spatial Audio to the fourth season of the Stranger Things series, the Netflix film Red Notice, The Witcher series and the upcoming Resident Evil live-action series. Netflix subscribers don’t have to manually enable the feature; Netflix does this automatically for titles that use Ambeo 2. Sennheiser states that it licenses the technology to interested companies.
