Netflix supports spatial audio technology for more than 700 titles for Premium subscription
Netflix is expanding support for the spatial audio technology introduced in July last year to many more titles on the platform. The company says it is present on more than 700 titles. This feature is only available to Premium subscribers.
Support for the spatial audio feature will also be added to popular new titles as they are released in the future, writes Netflix. These include You, Your Place or Mine, Luther: The Fallen Sun, and Tour de France. So it does not seem that every new production will automatically receive support, but only the more popular titles.
According to Netflix, the technology should provide a more cinematic sound experience on any device, without the need for special equipment such as speakers around and above the listening position. Last year, the streaming platform first released the technology developed together with Sennheiser; it was then available on the Stranger Things series, among others.
This concerns a technology from Sennheiser, called Ambeo 2-Channel Spatial Audio. This converts stereo sound consisting of two audio channels into spatial audio while still using two channels.
Netflix is launching a second renewal for Premium subscription customers. From now on, they can download series and films on more different devices. The maximum number of devices increases from four to six.
