Netflix has shared the first full trailer for the upcoming miniseries The Witcher: Blood Origin. The prequel series is set 1,200 years before the adventures of Geralt of Rivia and can be seen on the streaming service from December 25.

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set during the ‘golden age’ of the elves, during a period when an ‘indestructible empire’ oppresses the inhabitants of the Continent. In the series, seven diverse characters fight against this regime. The trailer also references a villain monster, which is probably too strong for the heroes of the story. It was previously announced that Blood Origin would provide a glimpse into the creation of the first Witcher, presumably to defeat this monster.

The leading roles include Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown and Laurence O’Fuarain. Remarkably, the trailer also features a character from Netflix’s first Witcher series, namely Jaskier, once again played by Joey Batey. It is not clear whether this is a preview of the ‘future’ of the Witcher universe or whether, for example, the troubadour can time travel through the monoliths shown in the trailer.

Netflix also confirms that The Witcher: Blood Origin will have fewer episodes than previously suggested. The original announcement mentioned six episodes. Also on IMDB six episodes are listed. Netflix leaves in the teaser and the recent trailer, on the other hand, know that it is a four-part miniseries.
