Netflix series The Witcher will have eight episodes and may be released in 2020
The Netflix-produced The Witcher drama series will have eight episodes and may be released in 2020. The shooting will take place in Eastern Europe. The series is based on the books that also inspired CD Projekt Red’s games.
The new details are announced by Lauren Schmid Hissrich, the screenwriter hired by Netflix to produce the series. She states that the number of eight episodes will provide episodes with a lot of story and action.
Most of the script has yet to be written, Hissrich says she’s only finished the pilot. Other writers will be involved in writing the script for the remaining seven episodes. It is not yet known when the series will be shown, but the producer mentions 2020, with the words ‘who knows’. The drama series will be shot in Eastern Europe. According to Hissrich, that speaks for itself and “the series cannot be made elsewhere.”
Last year it was announced that there will be an English-language Netflix series of The Witcher. The series is based on the eight books by Andrzej Sapkowski and is not directly related to the games, but the games created by CD Projekt Red are in turn based on the Polish writer’s saga. Sapkowski has been hired as a creative consultant for the drama series.
