Netflix will broadcast a five-part documentary focusing on the Inspiration4 mission. This is SpaceX’s first space mission in which a crew of four civilians will reach space without astronauts present.

The documentary is called Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission To Space. According to Netflix this will be the first own documentary in which an event can be followed ‘in near real time’. The five parts will be broadcast partly before launch and partly during or after the mission. The first two episodes will be broadcast on September 6, which will include the training that the participants will receive from SpaceX. The final episode will also feature the return to Earth and footage from the Crew Dragon. No release date has been announced yet.

The mission will take place in mid-September. A Falcon 9 rocket will take the four occupants into orbit in a Crew Dragon capsule, where they will remain for several days. They have a certain amount of freedom. One of the occupants is Jared Isaacman. He is the CEO of Shift4 Payments and an experienced pilot. Isaacman can determine how long the mission will last. That said Elon Musk earlier. He can decide on the mission parameters. The mission can last two to four days, but it could also take longer.

Isaacman donated $100 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and is once again trying to raise that amount to donate a total of $200 million. In an earlier press release wrote SpaceX that the three remaining members were chosen to “represent the mission pillars of ‘leadership, hope, generosity and prosperity’.” Professor and NASA astronaut candidate Sian Proctor, an employee of the said hospital who also beat cancer, and a US Air Force veteran, are the three other participants.
