Netflix is working on support for live broadcasts
Netflix is working on live streaming functionality for its platform. It’s primarily intended for non-script programming, such as talent shows and stand-up comedy. Its development would be at an early stage.
The applications ‘unscripted shows and stand-up comedy’ are mentioned by Netflix itself. Deadline, that with the development comes out further details the options for using the feature to vote live for talent contest candidates. In addition, for example, the physical Netflix festival Netflix is a Joke can be broadcast live on the platform. Just over a month ago, Disney+ made a similar move. The program Dancing With the Stars moved to the streaming platform and is also broadcast live there.
Netflix recently lost subscribers for the first time in a decade; in the first quarter of 2022, the company had 200,000 fewer subscribers worldwide than in the last quarter of 2021. It expects a decrease of two million subscribers in the second quarter. To turn that tide, the platform would consider offering a cheaper plan with ads and fighting password sharing. The intentions are generally not positively received by users.
Netflix announced in the summer of last year that it would also offer games. Netflix Games was introduced last November. Users must install the offered games for iOS and Android on their smartphone or tablet.
