Netflix allows downloading videos in Windows 10 app

Netflix’s Windows 10 app users will be able to watch videos offline on their desktop, laptop or tablet. At the end of last year, this feature was already available for Android and iOS. The update will be available from Tuesday through the Windows Store.

A Netflix spokesperson has confirmed to TechCrunch that the update will be available for laptops and tablets running Windows 10. It is still unclear whether the update will also be available for smartphones running Windows 10. Windows Central previously reported that the functionality is coming to Netflix’s PC app.

The feature will be available under the name ‘Download & Go’, where there will be a small download button that will download the series or movie for viewing at a later date. Titles that can be downloaded are mainly Netflix-produced series.

The download function was introduced in November last year. Members of the service can save selected movies and series to Android and iOS devices for later offline viewing. The downloads remain on the device for a limited time. How long the film or series remains available offline varies per title. When the download function was released for Android and iOS last year, the downloads could only be stored on the internal storage of smartphones and tablets, but since an update released in January, this can also be done on micro SD cards.
