Netatmo announces smart doorbell with Apple HomeKit support

The French smart home manufacturer Netatmo will launch a smart doorbell in the second half of this year. The ‘Smart Video Doorbell’ has a 1080p camera and support for Apple HomeKit.

The doorbell camera has a 160-degree wide-angle lens, an HDR function and an infrared sensor for night vision. The users can converse with the person in front of the door through the built-in microphone and speakers. This can be done via the app, which is available for Apple devices with iOS 10 or later versions and devices with Android 5 or later. In addition, there is a web app.

Among other things, users can set warning zones so that they are notified via the mobile app if something occurs in this part of the image. The app automatically gives a warning if someone tries to destroy the doorbell. In addition, users can use the app to view a live stream and access recordings and storage of the videos. The connection to the smartphone is end-to-end encrypted. The storage takes place locally on micro SD card, but users can also upload them to a Dropbox account or ftp server.

Users can integrate the Smart Video Doorbell into their smart home network via IFTTT and via Apple HomeKit. With the latter link, they receive more extensive notifications, voice control via Siri and the option to link other products in the house. The doorbell works with existing electrical installations from 8-24 volts to 230 volts and WiFi. The manufacturer promises not to link the bell to subscriptions.
