Nest’s Revolv smarthome hub will stop working next month

Revolv, a smarthome hub from Google’s sister company Nest, will shut down on May 15. From that day on, the $300 hardware will no longer serve users as Nest has decided to pull the plug.

Revolv has had the announcement on the site since early February, but few users had noticed it until user Arlo Gilbert ran a diatribe against Revolv’s stopping on blog site Medium. Nest is ditching Revolv because it wants to put its time and effort into Works With Nest, a method of making other devices work with its smart thermostat.

The smarthome hub came on the market in 2013. After the acquisition of Revolv a year and a half ago, Nest stopped offering the smarthome hub, but the device for connecting various smarthome products continued to receive support. Nest bought Revolv at the time because of the people who developed the device, not because of interest in the device itself.

Due to the end of support, the device will no longer work from May 15 and users will no longer have the device, which cost $300 at the time. It is unknown how many users there are of the device in the Benelux.
