Nest remains usable with Ifttt if users don’t transfer accounts

Nest products can continue to work with If This Then That automation service. However, users should not then convert their Nest account to a Google account, warns Ifttt. Also, they should not remove the connection between the services.

Ifttt warns users of Nest devices not to convert their accounts to a Google account. The warning comes shortly before Google plans to migrate all Nest users to a Google Account. The company has now started doing this, according to a blog post to which Ifttt also refers. Ifttt has sent an email warning to users not to do that.

By not migrating the accounts, users can continue to use their Nest Thermostat, Protect smoke detectors, and Nest security camera with Ifttt. Google announced in May that the Works With Nest APIs would be discontinued, leaving Nest devices only compatible with its own Assistant. After much outcry among users, the company partly reversed this by ensuring that existing Works With Nest connections would continue to work beyond the intended date. This also includes Ifttt connections, but then users must keep their account as it is now.

Users who don’t migrate to a Google Account may lose functionality as a result. This mainly concerns functions that will probably be added in the future, which then only work with the Google Assistant. Ifttt also warns users not to delete their Ifttt connections to Nest accounts, as they won’t be able to restore them.
