The American development studio Naughty Dog is considering making a sequel to The Last of Us, but it is not yet certain whether there will really be a sequel. In addition, the studio is still looking at the possibility of releasing The Last of Us on the PlayStation 4.

With The Last of Us, Naughty Dog has one of the most successful games of 2013, but according to the Californian development studio, that does not automatically mean that there will be a sequel. Creative director Neil Druckmann told Eurogamer when asked that the studio is currently keeping its options open. A sequel is one of the options, but Naughty Dog also has concepts for new titles. The studio is also considering making a PlayStation 4 version of The Last of Us.

“We have limited resources and the question is what you do with those resources. We have to find out what the support is for a PlayStation 4 version,” Duckmann told Eurogamer. Support is not the problem for a possible next part. For that project, Naughty Dog mainly looks at whether the studio can deliver a good story without repeating too much. According to Duckmann, that was also a big challenge when making the recently released DLC package Left Behind. In an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, Duckmann said there’s about a 50 percent chance that The Last of Us will get a sequel.

In addition to The Last of Us, Naughty Dog also has the Uncharted franchise, and is working with a separate team on a new game from that series for the PlayStation 4. It is not yet known when that game will be released.
