NASA announces free streaming service NASA+

NASA has announced NASA+, a free streaming service set to launch this summer. The service shows live broadcasts of launches, for example, but also ‘new original series’. The service can be used as an app and in the browser.

The streaming service will be free and will not contain ads, says NASA. NASA already has a YouTube channel and linear TV channel NASA TV, on which launches and series can be viewed, but NASA+ should make it easier to watch these series and launches. NASA does not yet provide many details about the new series, but does say that they will be series about science, education and rocket launches, for example.

New app and website from NASA

The space agency does not say when the streaming service should go live, other than “sometime this summer.” The service should be available via the NASA App on iOS and Android, via streaming platforms such as Roku, Apple TV and Fire TV, and via the browser.

In addition to NASA+, the agency is working on a new website, where it wants to link information and pages more closely, with an improved search engine and better navigation. That site is now available in beta. The agency also wants to improve the app later this year. “By transforming our digital presence, we can better share how NASA explores the unknown in the air and in space, how we inspire through discovery, and how we innovate for humanity,” said Marc Etkind, associate administrator in NASA’s communications office.
