Nacon postpones Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown until next year
Nacon postpones the release of racing game Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. The game was supposed to be released this year, but has now been pushed back to next year. The studio also shared new details and gameplay footage during a livestream.
Nacon confirms the postponement of his upcoming racing game during a livestream. The game was announced in 2020 and was initially scheduled for September 2022. The title was previously postponed until this year and is now scheduled for release in early 2024. The company does not share a concrete release date.
The developer also showed the first gameplay footage of Solar Crown. That demo starts in the Solar Hotel, where players each get their own room with a view of Hong Kong. At the hotel, players can view their progress in the game and start multiplayer sessions with other players. The studio also showed footage of racing.
Nacon will also hold a closed beta of the game, starting on July 24 and lasting three days. Players can sign up for the beta via the Test Drive Unlimited newsletter, although that does not guarantee participation. The developer does not say on which platforms the closed beta will be available.
Solar Crown is the third game in the Test Drive Unlimited series. The most recent title in that franchise, TDU 2, was released in 2011. Solar Crown will be an open-world racing game that will be released for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game should also appear on the Nintendo Switch, although that logo was missing during the livestream. That could suggest that the Switch version has been scrapped, just like the previously canceled PS4 and Xbox One versions. However, Nacon does not confirm this.
