MWC: RIM announces lte and hspa+ versions of PlayBook
Research In Motion has announced two new models of the Blackberry PlayBook. The tablet will have a variant that can communicate via lte networks and a version that can establish a wireless connection to the internet via hspa+.
The Blackberry PlayBook, a tablet with a 7″ screen, was first shown in September and should be released in the European market in the second quarter of this year. The device runs on RIM’s own Blackberry Tablet OS and, according to the original announcement will appear in two configurations: a Wi-Fi-only PlayBook and the PlayBook 4G, which can also communicate with the Internet via wimax.
However, RIM announced the arrival of two new PlayBook 4G models at Mobile World Congress on Monday announced that support lte or hspa+. These Blackberry PlayBook 4G models should also appear on the European market in the second quarter. RIM has not yet released anything about the prices of the two tablets.
