Must See: Photos of the new ports on the MacBook Pro 2021

Spread the love

On the new MacBook Pro, a few old and many missed connections are probably making their comeback, as we reported this morning. In the meantime, photos have surfaced of the sides of this MacBook, clearly showing those connections.

Old trusted connections

Reliable Apple insiders like Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman have previously reported the return of some old, trusted connections. It is an SD card reader, an HDMI port and the MagSafe connector. The latter keeps the charging cable in the right place magnetically: if you stumble over the cable, it will come loose and you will not destroy your Mac.

All these ports were removed from the MacBook Pro in 2016. This made the MacBook a lot thinner, but especially Pro users were not enthusiastic from the start. Because it meant that you had to use a dongle for almost all external equipment. With the MacBook Pro 2021, Apple would undo a few things.

Photos of the MacBook Pro 2021

Pictures of both sides of the MacBook Pro 2021 have now appeared on the Tech ARP website. Incidentally, we have not heard of this website before, so guarantee to the door. But it is always interesting to see how the connections could be designed.

The photo on the left side shows a MagSafe 3 connector to begin with. It looks slightly different from its two predecessors: it is a lot flatter and now has five pins. You can’t actually put the cable in the wrong way, because it can also be clicked upside down. In addition to the MagSafe connector, you see two Thunderbolt 3 ports and a headphone jack.

On the right side you see the much missed SD card reader on the far left with a third Thunderbolt 3 port next to it. On the far right, you will find the HDMI 2.0 port.

What else is new?

Tech ARP lists a number of other innovations for the new MacBook Pro 2021:

  • There will be two versions: a 14-inch and a 16-inch model.
  • The option for a MacBook Pro with an Intel chip will be canceled: all models will receive an M1X chip – the successor to the Apple M1.
  • The maximum memory is expanded to 32 GB
  • There is support for connecting at least two external monitors – with current M1 Macs there is only one.
  • The Touch Bar disappears.

We also expect that it will be a while before the new MacBook Pro 2021 is in the shops. Apple is expected to launch it at a special Mac event in October.
