Musk: New Twitter CEO takes office in about six weeks – update
Elon Musk announces that he has found a new CEO for Twitter. This woman would take over his role in about six weeks, after which Musk would become executive chairman of the board.
In addition Will Musk from his role in the board of directors responsible for ‘product, software and sysops’. Musk does not reveal who the new CEO is. The Wall Street Journal reports based on his sources that it will be Linda Yaccarino. This lady has been the head of the advertising and partnership division at NBCUniversal for the past ten years.
Elon Musk’s departure would come just over half a year after his takeover of the social medium. He paid a lot of money for the platform, which also did not make much profit. In the meantime, he has made many significant changes, mainly in the area of the Twitter Blue subscription. More functionalities have disappeared behind that paywall, such as encryption of DMs, checking usernames and editing tweets.
He also fired many Twitter employees. Last month, he reported that Twitter “roughly broke even” with 1,500 employees left. There were about 8,000 before the takeover.
Update 7:30 PM: Musk has now confirmed that Linda Yaccarino will be the new CEO. She will mainly focus on business operations, while Musk will continue to focus on “product design and new technologies,” he writes.
