The American technology manufacturer Mushkin announces an SSD in msata form factor with a capacity of 480GB. The flash storage for ultrabooks and notebooks features a SandForce controller.

Mushkin brings a new SSD in its Atlas series. The Atlas 480GB mSATA offers, as its name implies, a capacity of 480GB and is supplied as an msata module. The controller is the SandForce SF-2281, the interface is of the sata 6Gbps generation and the ssd supports trim. According to Mushkin, it is the first msata ssd of 480GB.

The module is made up of mlc nand chips. Thanks to its dimensions of 51x30x5mm, the Atlas SSD is suitable for use in ultrabooks and thin notebooks. Almost a year ago, OWC offered an SSD for $1149, but that was for a MacBook Air. Prices have since fallen considerably: Mushkin’s Atlas costs 500 dollars. Flash storage will be available in the United States in mid-January. When the product will be released in the Benelux and what it will cost is not yet known.
