The murder mystery game The Forgotten City will be released at the end of 2019 for both PC and Xbox One. The game is based on the Skyrim mod of the same name, but has more story elements, characters and new music. The Forgotten City runs on Unreal Engine 4.

In the game, players take on the role of an adventurer who finds a portal in a Roman ruin. The portal sends the player back in time to relive the last day of their lives with 26 fellow adventurers. The story is a bit like the movie Groundhog Day. Unlike in that movie, players in The Forgotten City must battle against golden statues. Once someone breaks a law in the idyllic world of the game, these statues try to turn everyone into gold. The aim of the game is to solve the mystery behind the story by exploiting holes in the time loop.

The Forgotten City was released in late 2015 as a mod for Skyrim. To date, the mod has been downloaded more than two million times and in 2016 it won the Awgie award for the best interactive medium. That’s why Australian developer Nick Pearce quit his job as a consultant in 2016 to found Modern Storyteller and release The Forgotten City as a standalone game.

The game will be released “late 2019” for Xbox One and on Steam. If there is enough interest, the developer may also want to release The Forgotten City for other consoles. Modern Storyteller thus refers specifically to the PS4, according to the faq page. The developer is aiming for a price of 20 dollars for the game, converted with VAT that is 21.53 euros.
