Murata demonstrates a cycling robot
The Japanese company Murata has demonstrated its cycling robot ‘Murata Boy’ at CES in Las Vegas. The robot with gyroscope is able to cycle over a narrow ledge and could reach a speed of 2 kilometers per hour.
The Murata Boy serves as a show model for the various parts that Murata supplies for various electronic products, such as televisions, smart meters and automotive systems. The robot uses a gyroscope to keep its balance when stationary and when driving slowly. However, it can be unbalanced with a light tap. Murata Boy can drive forward and backward and move his head.
Furthermore, various sensors are present for the functioning of the cycling robot boy. For example, there is a sensor that can detect bumps and one that can detect obstacles using ultrasonic sound. The cycling human-machine can also communicate with PCs, tablets and mobile phones, and there is a speaker to produce sound.
Murata Boy is not new; the company has been working on it since 2006, but it is not often demonstrated outside of Japan. There is also a female version, which rides a unicycle, Murata girlbut it was not present at CES.
