MSI shows new Stealth laptops with improved cooling system

MSI is showing newly designed Stealth 14 Studio and Stealth 16 Studio laptops during CES in Las Vegas. The devices have a new housing and an improved cooling system, which also incorporates the latest components from Intel and Nvidia.

The MSI Stealth series, available in 14, 15, 16 and 17 inches, consists of thin, light gaming laptops. The Stealth 14 Studio and Stealth 16 Studio have a newly designed housing, made from a magnesium-aluminum alloy. The remaining models are updated with new hardware, but no new housing. Pricing and availability of the new Stealth series have not yet been announced.

The Stealth 14 Studio has a weight of 1.7kg and a thickness of 1.9cm. The device has a white exterior and a black interior, a keyboard with per-key RGB lighting, and a 720p camera with facial recognition and a slider to cover it. Inside are an Intel Core i7-13700H and up to an Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070, with RTX 4060 and RTX 4050 options also available. To keep the components in the compact housing cool, MSI opted for a cooler with a vapor chamber. The housing contains a maximum of 64GB DDR5, divided over two SODIMM strips, as well as an M.2 SSD of up to 2TB. The battery has a capacity of 72Wh.

MSI Stealth 14 Studio

On the side of the Stealth 14 Studio there is a Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, USB-A and HDMI2.1 port. The system can be equipped with two different IPS displays with 16:10 ratio: one with 2560×1600 pixels, 240Hz refresh rate and full DCI-P3 color coverage, or a screen with 1920×1200 pixels and 165Hz refresh rate that offers full sRGB shows color space.

The MSI Stealth 16 Studio does not have a dual-tone design, but is available in a completely dark blue or white version. The device weighs less than 2kg. As with the 14″ model, MSI is installing a maximum of an RTX 4070, here in combination with a faster Intel Core i9-13900H. The cooling system uses traditional heat pipes in a configuration new to MSI, where the heat dissipation for GPU and CPU is not is more separated. With 99.99Wh, the battery has the maximum possible capacity to be allowed on an airplane.

MSI Stealth 16 Studio

The larger housing accommodates two M.2 slots and two SODIMM slots, with the range of connections expanded compared to the smaller model with a microSD card reader. The webcam in this case is a Full HD one, also with a slider and facial recognition. You can choose from a 4K IPS screen with a 120Hz refresh rate or an IPS screen with 2560×1600 pixels that displays 240Hz, both with full DCI-P3 coverage and 16:10 aspect ratio.
