MSI Releases Overclocking Bios for Wind

The Taiwanese hardware manufacturer MSI has released a BIOS update for the Wind netbook that boosts the small notebook to better performance at the push of a button.

The new bios version 1.09 for the MSI Wind provides incremental overclocking by pressing the Fn + F10 key combination. In this way, an 8 percent, 16 percent or 24 percent faster system is realized in steps, provided the Wind is connected to the mains supply. The clock speed of the standard 1.6GHz clocked Atom processor climbs to almost 2GHz with the 24 percent overclock. It is not known whether the 1.09 bios also works with the almost identical Medion Akoya 1210: previous MSI bios were used with varying success on the German variant.

Incidentally, MSI’s Wind is not the only netbook that makes the Atom CPU run faster: Asus also offers the option to change the clock speed by default using the Super Hybrid Engine. This allows the Atom not only to be lifted to 1.8GHz in the ‘Super Performace’ mode, but the clock speed of the netbook can also be reduced to 1.2GHz to save the battery.
